recipe book. meat dishes.

Single-channel video, 2006

The recipe book is a metaphor for violence, this is especially clear since manipulation of flesh is in its very nature the manipulation of the corporeal body, which takes on a sacrificial and anthropomorphic character.

The recipe book consists of still lives. It could be illustrated by stills of the butcher’ work as well as masterpieces of Frans Snyders, Claude Monet, Ilya Mashkov, Pyotr Konchalovsky, and Chaim Soutine. Reading the recipes, we discover the secret world of cooking. The cooking book is a life beyond this world, for a while it returns to life nature morte, describing its final journey to the dinner table.
